POSITION SUMMARY  

Employees occupying positions of this class are responsible for providing plumbing services with specific responsibility for identifying repair and/or replacement needs; fabricates, assembles, installs, alters, dismantles, repairs, replaces and/or upgrades plumbing systems and related appurtenances (including but not limited to metal, plastic, ceramic, and composition), waste water systems and hydraulic systems for the transportation of solids, liquids, or gases; ensuring compliance with accessibility, health and safety codes; ensuring completion of projects in accordance with trade standards; providing information on the proper uses of equipment; assisting other skilled trades; and ensuring that tools and materials are available at the job site.

Work is typically performed alone but may be performed as a member of a team of other Plumbers or personnel from other Trades. Executes all work assignments within the constraints of authorized expenditures and applicable District standards. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Coordinates with Foreman and/or Assistant Foreman and/or other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently. 
• Fabricates, assembles, and installs piping and tubing systems that are to conduct water, air, and other fluids, solids, or gases in and around buildings and structures, including hangers, restraints, and supports for such systems. 
• Installs plumbing systems and fixtures (e.g. hot water heaters, drinking fountains, etc.) for the purpose of providing enhanced and/or upgraded capabilities. 
• Maintains vehicle, tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating condition. 
• Installs vacuum piping systems. 
• Installs drainage and sewage lines (laterals) from buildings to the point of attachment to sewer mains. 
• Installs distribution lines, including but not limited to gas lines. 
• Installs plumbing fixtures, including but not limited to sinks, faucets, drinking fountains, and commodes, water closets, medical gas, backflow devices, and fire sprinkler systems that connect into potable water systems. 
• Cuts, threads, bends, connects, and secures pipes. 
• Performs welding and burning which is incidental to the work of plumbing. 
• Handles and moves materials and equipment to be used by plumbers. 
• Analyzes blueprints, schematics, and drawings of plumbing systems for the purpose of determining the efficient installation of new or upgraded systems. 
• Performs related duties as assigned. 
• Remove hazardous materials identified in the course of plumbing work, in compliance with local, state and Federal laws. 
• Identify and execute mechanical system preventative maintenance (PM) procedures to prevent breakdowns, prolong equipment life and minimize interruptions impacting the customer, typically related to plumber work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS  

Knowledge of:  

• Knowledge of equipment parts that must be replaced on a regular basis to prevent equipment malfunction. 
• Knowledge of and the ability to apply customer service skills to appropriately interact with District staff (our customers) in their place of work with minimal disruption of their work environment. 
• Knowledge of and the ability to identify hazards and implement safety precautions associated with the work; ability to handle hazardous materials associated with the job in accordance with established laws and policies. 
• Skill to recognize characteristics of malfunctioning equipment; the range of conditions or problems that could cause various mechanical equipment to malfunction; identify and correct specific problems causing equipment malfunction. 
• Basic Office Essentials: use of tablets, respond to emails, spread sheets ect.

Ability to:  

• Diagnose causes of problems and/or failures in plumbing/irrigation systems for the purpose of identifying repair and/or replacement needs. 
• Fabricate equipment parts for the purpose of meeting specialty needs and/or replacing unavailable parts. 
• Inform personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations. 
• Inspect buildings and facilities for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance. 
• Participate in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
• Prepare of written materials (e.g. repair status, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information. 
• Request equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair. 
• Respond to emergency situations during and after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns. 
• Ability to operate assigned trade equipment skillfully and safely in conformance with applicable laws, regulations and policies. 
• Ability to operate District-owned vehicles and to purchase tools, equipment and supplies in accordance with established policies and perform most work independently. 
• Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions; maintain simple work order and timekeeping written records; input work order and timekeeping data into timekeeping system. 
• Ability to speak, read and understand the English language proficiently. 

SALARY : $46.06/hour plus swing shift differential ($1.06/hour) with paid 30 minute lunch period

WORK YEAR : 260 days

FTE : 1.0 (40 hours/week)

WORK SCHEDULE:  Swing Shift 2:00 pm - 10:00 pm Monday - Friday

Training and Experience:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: 

Education/Training: Completion of a State of Oregon qualified apprenticeship program in a related field;

Experience: Five (5) years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of piping systems; OR A combination of related training and experience which equals five (5) years. 

License or Certificate required: Possession of a valid state driver's license. Possession of a valid Oregon State Journeyman Plumber License.

Desired State of Oregon Credentials: An Industry Brazing Certificate is a plus.

Special Requirements: Employees in this classification are required to obtain and maintain, throughout the course of employment, certification of successful completion of a Class III Asbestos Abatement course meeting EPA requirements for training local education agency maintenance and custodial staff [40 CFR 763.92(a)(2)].
